CM 821 - Advanced Channel Theory Credit(s): 1.5
The 經絡jīng luò, meridian and 穴xué, point system of Classical Chinese Medicine has its roots in the ancient texts. These texts lay the foundation for the use of zhēn jiǔ 針灸, needing and moxibustion. The Primary Channels are first discussed along with the secondary channels of the Muscle Sinew, Luo, Divergent and Extraordinary Vessels. These secondary channels have no limit to their application, and are the channels that acupuncture utilizes to understand and then to reverse the course of chronic degenerative diseases. They are the key to a detailed understanding of how the body deals with a pathological encounter that it was unable to fully handle at the time of invasion. They explain the mechanisms of visceral protection that follow in the body during the progression of disease.
Huángdì Nèijīng 黃帝內經, The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Nánjīng南京, The Classic of Difficult Issues and the Zhēnjiŭ jiăyĭ jīng針灸甲乙經, The Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion are source texts which reveal organizational framework for acupuncture and moxibustion. We will be using these as source texts and uncovering how different Chinese medical doctors use these channel systems in treatment.
