CM 899 - Race and Diversity in Healthcare Credit(s): 2
This course is designed to provide an overview of health disparities along racial and ethnic categories. We will seek to understand how political, economic, and social contexts shape health, access to healthcare and the quality of care across racial and ethnic groups. This course also explores the socio-scientific processes that have privileged “innate” difference as explanations for inequality and marginalization and, examine ways in which “race” intersects with other categories of difference, such as gender, class, sexuality, and religion to impact one’s health and one’s access to healthcare. Finally, we will address the implications of this framework for understanding health inequality and how we choose to address it.
